Black Iris Brewery
Location: Basford, Nottingham
Black Iris Brewery was founded in 2011 by friends Alex Wilson and Nick Folkard, brewing on a six-barrel kit behind the Flowerpot pub in Derby. In 2014 they moved to Nottingham, installing a new 10-barrel brewhouse on the site of the old Shipstone's brewery in Basford.
Black Iris is known for well-made British ales alongside modern pales, IPAs, stouts and fruited sours – with striking black-and-white can artwork and beer names drawn from punk and metal songs. It's a big part of Nottingham's thriving independent beer scene, and well worth exploring if you like beer with a bit of attitude.
